Customize revenue formula
The revenue formula page lets you control how Ocrolus calculates revenue across your portfolio. You can customize which transaction tags are deducted from your organization-wide primary formula, and apply separate revenue logic to Books by industry classification.
AccessAll users can view the revenue formula, but only Managers can edit it. Managers can use the toggles in the dashboard to change which system and custom tags are deducted from revenue. These adjustments will impact revenue calculations for all of your organization’s Books. We recommend that managers only edit the revenue formula during the initial account setup with Ocrolus.

Primary formula
The primary formula is your organization-wide revenue calculation. It applies to all Books in your portfolio unless an industry formula overrides it for a specific industry classification.
The page opens on your active formula in a two-column layout, the formula preview on the left and the tag selection on the right. A banner indicates whether the Standard or a Custom formula is active.
The left panel is headed Review your active formula and displays a Standard, Draft, or Custom badge depending on the formula state. Together, these produce = Total revenue.
It breaks the formula into two components:
| Component | Description |
|---|---|
| All credits | Gross inflow |
| Revenue deductions | Deduction tags grouped by category |
Customize primary formula
Changes to the primary formula affect revenue calculations for all Books in your organization. Ocrolus recommends making these changes during initial account setup.
TipsYou can also update revenue tags by customizing tags on the transaction level. To learn more, see the Tag management page.
The right panel lists deduction tags in a categorized accordion. Use the search field or category filter pills to narrow the list. The available options are:
Debt Investing NSF/Overdraft Payroll Tax Transfer Other Custom tag
To add a tag, toggle it on the right panel. To remove one, click the × on its pill on the left. Either action moves the formula into Draft state, where:
| Action | Result |
|---|---|
| Toggle a tag on | Tag added; NEW badge appears on the tag |
| Click × on a pill | Tag removed; appears as + [tag name] to re-add |
| Either action | Badge updates to Draft. Change counter and Save changes button appear |

Save or reset the formula
The Save changes option appears only in Draft state. Saving moves the formula to Custom, where:
- The badge updates to Custom
- Changed tags display a CUSTOM badge
- The button changes to Reset to standard formula
The RESET TO STANDARD FORMULA button appears only in the Custom state. Clicking it opens a confirmation modal before reverting all changes and clearing the custom formula.

Compare against the standard formula
When a custom formula is active, the banner includes a View custom formula link. It opens a side-by-side comparison across three columns:
| Column | Description |
|---|---|
| Category | The deduction tag category |
| Standard formula tags | Tags included in the default formula |
| Your changes | Tags added or removed from the custom formula |
Added tags are labeled ADDED and removed tags are labeled REMOVED.
Industry aware formulas
Industry-aware revenue formulas improve revenue accuracy by accounting for differences in how businesses across industries generate revenue. Lenders can reduce manual adjustments and apply industry-specific logic without changing revenue calculations across their entire portfolio.
Instead of using the same organization-level formula for every Book, you can apply different revenue formulas based on a business's industry classification.
Early accessIndustry-aware revenue formulas are currently available as an early access feature. To enable this feature for your organization, contact your Ocrolus account manager.
To access this capability, navigate to the revenue formula page and click Industry formulas at the top of the page, next to Primary formula.
TipsThis feature is also available through the API. To learn more about managing industry-aware formulas programmatically, see the Industry revenue formulas API reference.

Adopt Ocrolus-suggested formulas
Ocrolus provides suggested formulas for industries that commonly require unique revenue calculations. On the Industry formulas tab, click Suggested formulas, browse the available presets, and select one to review.

After accessing suggested formulas, you can choose to review preset formulas, including the above.

Once chosen for review, you can also edit the formula based on your specific business needs. Upon saving, the formula is applied to all relevant Books in your portfolio.
Add a custom industry formula
If no suggested formula fits your needs, you can create one from scratch.
To add a custom industry formula, perform the following steps:
-
On the Industry formulas tab, click ADD NEW INDUSTRY FORMULA to create a unique revenue formula to a business that falls within that industry.

-
Enter a name for the formula.

-
Select the NAICS codes for the industries this formula should apply to.
NoteNAICS codes already added to a revenue formula will not be selectable in a new formula. Two separate formulas cannot be applied to the same NAICS code, when this is attempted, you will be prevented from saving.
This also applies at the hierarchy level: a NAICS 4-digit code that is a subset of a NAICS 2-digit code formula cannot be added to a separate formula.
-
Optionally, edit the formula just as you normally would.
-
Click Save.

After saving, you can remove individual NAICS codes when more than one is assigned, or delete the formula entirely.
